MLB.com has come out with two new iPhone applications that let you enjoy the game wherever you are.  At Bat 2009 is now the fastest, most detailed way to follow baseball on your iPhone and iPod touch by providing exclusive pitch type, location, and speed data.  You can listen live to every regular season and Postseason game including all home and select visiting team feeds and no blackout restrictions.  You can also watch the best plays of the game moments after they happen. The app will detect your connection speed to deliver the optimal quality video.  $9.99 available at iTunes

At Bat Lite is a quick way keep up with all the day's scores and see how your favorite team is doing.  Real-time game updates, league standings and the entire season schedule are available in this FREE version of MLB.com At Bat.  Free version available here

What's Your Hangtime?

With the upcoming ski season comes a new iPhone and iPod Touch application from Hangtimer designed to measure your air time, for those more accomplished skiers and snowboarders who do take flight.  Using the iPhone’s accelerometer (similar to technology used by NASA); the HangTimer application determines the split second you become airborne.

Other features of the HangTimer application include: a list of the user’s 10 best jumps, automatically locates ski resorts worldwide; and downloads trail maps, lift status, and snow reports. For users with the iPhone 3G, HangTimer has added bonus features which use the built in GPS to find your exact position for every jump and plot it using Google Maps. The GPS also enables the HangTimer application to display the user’s speed as he or she cruises along and how fast they are going when they take flight. All this information is saved for display on a graph that allows them to check out their entire run and see where they caught the biggest air and fastest speed.

Free Surf Report from Oakley and Surfline

It's been a while since I've been on a surf board, that's right Cocoa Beach, but I'm sure today's surfers would be pretty interested in this new iPhone application.  Oakley (the guys who make the really cool Thump sunglasses) and Surfline just annouced their free application Surf Report. 

There’s only one other surf-forecasting app, GreenRoom Surf Forecasts, available today and it costs $2.99. It’s limited to spots in California, but you can get a seven-day forecast whereas Surf Report only provides up to three days. However, Oakley’s app is free - nice.

With Surfline powering the Oakley app, surfers now have access to spots all over the world with vital stats like air temp, water temp, tide charts, swell breakdown, wind, sunrise/sunset and a brief synopsis for each spot. Projected conditions and weather are provided for the following three days as well. Using the GPS coordinates of your iPhone you can see what’s going on at a handful of spots near you that are within a certain distance that you set.

Driving directions are also included via map links in case you’re going somewhere new. All of the beaches are well known, so the few hidden spots that are left in the world won’t be revealed.

A community tab launches news surrounding Oakley team riders, profiles, photos and videos for those interested.
